Hi, I am Mykael Leigh.

I am a published photographer based in Eastern Iowa, specializing in portraiture and editorial portraits. With a B.F.A. in Digital Photography from the Illinois Institute of Art–Chicago and a Master’s in Criminal Justice from Ashford University, I blend fine-art vision with editorial-style storytelling to create expressive, intentional imagery that captures each person’s true essence. My work has been exhibited in Chicago, Northwest Indiana, and Eastern Iowa.

I currently serve as an Adjunct Digital Photography Professor at Kirkwood College, where I teach students how to develop technical mastery, creative confidence, and their own artistic voice. Teaching allows me to share my passion for photography while mentoring the next generation of visual storytellers.

In addition to my creative work, I am deeply committed to mental-health advocacy. I provide behavior and mental-health support services in the Linn-Mar School District, helping youth build emotional resilience, self-expression, and coping skills. This work informs my photography practice, guiding me to create safe, welcoming, and empowering spaces for clients and students alike.

As a mother, I understand the importance of preserving life’s most meaningful moments. This inspires me to craft imagery that celebrates identity, connection, and personal history. My approach blends warmth, intention, and authenticity—allowing clients to relax, be themselves, and feel seen.

Through thoughtful storytelling and a refined artistic eye, I create portraits and projects that reflect personality, deepen narrative, and honor the beauty of real life.
